ReVisited
Fresh encounters with former masterclass students
Exhibitions are important points of crystallisation for artists. That is the idea at the heart of the Hannover Re Foundation's engagement for "Masterclass Students". The anniversary edition "ReVisited" in 2023 demonstrated one thing above all else: the tremendous growth of the artists. Invitations went out to former masterclass students of the Braunschweig University of Art who had already exhibited their works in previous editions. Today, some of them have matured into noted international artists. They put on show some of their latest works in what was the tenth year of the exhibition. For the first time, pieces were shown not only in Hannover, but also at Hannover Re offices in Stockholm and Paris. The artists represented were Enric Fort Ballester, Sebastian Bartel, Matej Bosnić, Collectif Grapain, Andreas Linke, Paloma Riewe, Lisa Seebach, Heehyun Jeong, Katharina Kühne and Alida Warzecha.
"Artists are experts in unconventional perspectives. With their finely tuned sensors for social issues, they reflect to us what they perceive in us. Their output causes us to pause and question our own perspectives. They inspire, irritate and a great deal more", Olaf Brock, Chairman of the Hannover Re Foundation's Board of Trustees for Art, sums up the artistic intention. For the artists, too, the Foundation's engagement pays off. Artist Sebastian Bartel puts it this way: "The Masterclass Students exhibition was a major moment for me in my artistic career at the end of my studies. Looking back, the opportunity to present my work in large spaces, coupled with the quality of the catalogue, was important for my development."
The exhibition was curated by Karin Kamolz. Co-curator: Uwe Sommer.
