Beyond verbal explanation
Emotional states, identity and coexistence beyond the limits of language: Exhibitions enable artists to exchange ideas and broaden their own perspectives as well as those of the audience.
The central idea behind the Hannover Re Foundation's commitment to the Meisterschüler:innen is to create such points of crystallisation. Since 2014, the Meisterschüler:innen exhibition series has been taking place in the building and outside area of Hannover Re. In cooperation with the Braunschweig University of Art, graduates are given the opportunity to present their works to a large audience. The exhibitions are accompanied by individual catalogues. The artists give exclusive tours of their exhibited works and make their artworks available for loan to Hannover Re employees in an art library.
In 2023 and 2024, the exhibitions were expanded internationally for the first time: Individual artists exhibited their works at the Hannover Re branches in Stockholm, Paris and Dublin.

Honoured: The Association of Arts and Culture of the German Economy honoured the Hannover Re Foundation's commitment to the "Meisterschüler:innen" exhibition series in 2025 with a place on the shortlist for the German Cultural Sponsorship Prize - a significant acknowledgement of the Hannover Re Foundation’s promotion of culture.
These four artists are exhibiting their works of art this year: Juri Kim, Jana Michal, Rubia Rose and Marianna Tyralla.
The subtle yet complex works of the South Korean artist Juri Kim reflect her exploration of emotional states, which she expresses on canvas. The fluidity of these emotions, forever present as a constant energy but always coming and going, forms the focus of her observations. In her work she visualises this movement through painting, giving particular attention to ‘bottled-up emotions’. These moments are more intense than a momentary mental state and are shaped by unease, fear and disorientation.
In her artistic practice, Rubia Rose works with two forms of media: installations with a sculptural focus and drawing. A core theme underpinning her works is the exploration of the complex structure of human interactions and the multilayered nature of identity. Another focus of this analysis is the question of freedom: How much freedom do social norms allow us and what limits do we set for ourselves?
Marianna Tyralla’s expansive, sculptural works explore the interplay between chance and deliberate direction, and the dialogue between what the material dictates and active staging. Her practice involves allowing the work to develop and react to the space it occupies, while also bringing her own voice and perspectives into play. In this balance between order and chaos, between intention and pure chance, works are formed that evolve both with and within the space.
